The Challenge Continues with The Artifact Benefactor program

Located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum gives life to the human stories and the natural history of one of our nation’s most compelling landscapes. Since its opening in 1995, more than 358,000 visitors have enjoyed the exhibits, programs and activities. It definitely has become a priority destination for many Pacific Northwest travelers.

The Museum is a wholly owned subsidiary of the local historical society, a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization. The Museum has formed strong relationships with the local businesses and the general membership continues to grow.

Now all the wonderful programs, exhibits and events you are accustomed to are in jeopardy. Due to the economic climate, the sources of operating revenue will be reduced by $75,000 in 2010. Cuts were made in 2009 in anticipation of this crisis, but since the Museum has always operated on a very tight budget, the shortfall can not be covered. Your support now will help keep the doors open.

We are proud to offer the opportunity to support the Museum in a creative and personalized manner. The Artifact Benefactor program involves contributing to a specific artifact as selected by the Board of Directors. For a specified contribution, your name or requested memorial will be added to the label of the artifact for one year. The benefits include: a year’s family membership or extension of a current membership; a 50% discount on the use of the buildings and grounds; a framed photo of you with the artifact (if desired!) and two free tickets to an annual event of your choice.

The artifacts selected by the Board for 2010 are: 1921 Mack Log Truck ($2500); 1917 Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” bi-plane ($2500); the Native American Dip Netter and water feature ($1500); the model railroad($1500); the three carved cedar logs ($1000) and the Celebrity Rosaries which include rosaries owned by John F. Kennedy, Lawrence Welk, Al Smith, Lou Holtz and Father Flanagan ($500).

Call the Museum (800) 991-2338 or email sharon@columbiagorge.org to receive the details regarding a specific artifact you may be interested in sponsoring. Remember, the funds are tax deductible and this is a great way to honor loved ones as well as receive recognition for you. All donations are tax deductible. More than one person or organization may sponsor a specific artifact.

This program is a means of providing the very necessary funding for all aspects of the Museum, not the least of which is functioning as a repository for our family histories.
